We just went through a horrible campaign. We heard Donald Trump use nicknames for his opponents that were far from flattering. His favorite target was Hillary Clinton calling her “crooked Hillary” and complaining about “corruption”.
He talked about cleaning up Washington. He claimed that all corruption would be wiped out. Something that sounds good, but it also takes leadership to make that happen.
Then just two days after he wrapped up the election we got a look at some of the people he plans to put into his cabinet. The list has the same characters that were front and center during the campaign speaking for him.
There are four that really jump out at me. Chris Christie, Rudi Giuliani, Newt Gingrich, and Sara Palin. Excuse the French, but holy shit! How the hell can you talk about draining the swamp and cleaning up corruption and have these four front and center for your administration?
Let’s look at each of them. Chris Christie is still under investigation for that little thing called Bridgegate. You remember the stupid act of closing down lanes on the George Washington Bridge to punish the mayor of the city at the foot of the bridge with massive traffic jams.
Those traffic jams could have caused people to die. The traffic was so bad in the city that emergency vehicles had trouble navigating through town to get to those who needed help. Three different people, yes all convicted in the scandal, testified that Chris Christie knew about the plan before and during its implementation.
You can explain all of this by three people trying to save their own asses. However, each gave very similar stories about Christie. Christie claims that “I don’t recall” anyone telling me that. He doesn’t deny it, he just “doesn’t recall”. Funny, when Clinton says she doesn’t recall something she is obviously hiding some horrible crime. But, Christie can say it and that means he didn’t know.
And, what is one of the jobs he is being considered for? Attorney General. In his world he seems to be able to go from corrupt Governor to the country’s top law enforcer. Marvelous.
Then we have Rudi Giuliani. The only thing Rudi is remembered for is being mayor of New York City on 9/11. That is it. Oh, unless you consider his order that the New York Police use “stop and frisk” as a law enforcement policy.
The same “stop and frisk” that the courts ruled as “racial profiling” and unconstitutional. That’s it. He really has done nothing else of any consequence except make a fool of himself during the campaign. Sorry, but I really believe that he has totally lost his mind.
His rantings and ravings about everyone but himself is comical except that he could be Attorney General of the United States. A position that would give him more power than he could have ever imagined.
Then we have Newt Gingrich. He is actually being considered for Secretary of State. Newt lost his position as Speaker of the House and his seat in Congress under a cloud of corruption.
Do we really want a Secretary of State who has a history of corruption? I don’t think so. Yet, that is a pick that Donald Trump seems to think will end corruption in government.
Sarah Palin resigned her position of Governor of Alaska just two years into her first term. This resignation came right at the point when the state was beginning an investigation into her corruption as Governor.
She decided it was better to cut and run instead of proving she was not corrupt. According to conservative thinking, that makes her guilty. Still, she is being considered for a position in the cabinet of Donald Trump.
There are others like Governor Rick Scott of Florida being considered as Secretary of Health and Human Services. The same Governor Rick Scott whose insurance company was found guilty of many scandals and fraudulent practices while he was the head of it.
I am sorry, but the names being floated for Trump’s cabinet remind me too much of the people who served under Richard Nixon. They all had corruption scandals in their past before serving in the cabinet.
They were all angry, petty, immoral, power-hungry vultures who were only interested in “payback” against all of their and their President’s opponents. And, look what that cabinet gave us. Watergate and the worst constitutional crisis in our country’s history.
There is no way to be sure how an administration will actually function until it takes office. However, the names being floated to be in very powerful positions do show the mindset of the President elect.
So far, that mindset is scary. We are looking at an administration filled by corrupt, petty, immoral, and power-hungry morons looking to give “payback” to their opponents.
There are currently 14 departments that need heads. From this list, it appears we are going to get the Dopey, Sneezy, Bashful, Grumpy, Sleepy, Doc and Happy. You know, the seven dwarves heading up half of them. That is not a very good start to running the government.
We can only hope the Senate won’t rubber stamp these clowns. But, with McConnell running the Senate I bet they do. But then again, when a country elects Bozo the Clown to be President, anything is possible.
