Yesterday both candidates wrapped up their campaigns. Now they can only sit around and wait for the results. Nothing they can do now. Their surrogates will hit the airwaves telling the news media how their candidate is going to win. Especially the Trump camp.
If you didn’t notice anything else, you might have noticed the same thing I did. I never wrote about it before, but it seems that Donald Trump thinks that if you say something several times in a row that makes is right.
During his last stop in Grand Rapids, MI last night, Trump again complained that there were thousands of people who weren’t being let in. Only problem was the hall was not even full of his supporters. Then again, maybe 11 pm was too late for most of his supporters.
The midnight rally that Hillary Clinton held in Raleigh, NC last night was electric. The crowd really got into the event without shouting obscenities or accusations against her opponent. That was refreshing.
Still, the Politburo here in the Soviet Socialist State of North Carolina have been bragging about how great their voting suppression has been so far. They are bragging that those nasty “blacks” voting in the early voting season is down 8.5 percent. For example, in Greensboro, the third largest city in the state, the early voting only had one polling place. Yet, in a small country where I live and a small African-American population, there were three.
What they don’t tell the media is that they purposefully kept the number of voting places in minority areas down to a minimum and they cut voting hours and Sunday voting is several counties in the state. That was all ordered by the NCGOP in an open memo to the counties and didn’t pull punches calling it “partisan rules”.
You know a political party is bankrupt of ideas when they rely on voter suppression as a winning tactic. We have seen this effort all across the nation in Republican controlled states.
In any case, there isn’t a whole lot more to say about the election. Today is the day we the people make our decision. I am banking on the simple fact that the vast majority of Americans are not racists, misogynists, homophobes, xenophobes, anti-immigrant or religiously bigoted. I believe that the American people are good, honest, decent and caring people.
That is what our choice today is. Who are we as a people. A Trump victory would be a very dark hour for our country. It would open the door to possibly change our entire way of life, and not for the better.
I cast my vote. My family has cast their votes. If you haven’t yet, it is your duty to cast your vote. Democracy is not cheap. Freedom is not free. We all have one simple duty every few years. We are expected to participate and cast our votes.
Patriotism is based on participating in the elections. Patriots vote.
THANK A VET – VOTE and let’s see how the chips fall.
