Donald Trump does use that word often. That is the one word that is probably the best description of this election. Only, not in the sense that he intends for it.
Disaster is used by Trump to describe our economy, our military, our immigration process, our financial institutes, our entire way of life. If you listen to a Donald Trump speech, you would make money if you bet on him using that word.
Unfortunately, that is not the only word that can be used to describe this election like hypocrisy. Trump never uses that word, but it is paramount in his own campaign. I have found it almost amusing that he can cast such claims against Hillary Clinton’s character. Especially when you consider that he is guilty of most of the very things he is accusing her of doing.
He claims her foundation is crooked. Yet, it was his foundation that used its money for “self buying”. It is his foundation that broke the law and raised money from other people without being chartered to do so. It was his foundation that illegally spent money to settle a law suit against one of his companies and pay a fine for another.
The simple case is that the “facts”, and yes I know facts don’t mean anything to Trump, is that his foundation is the “crooked” one not the Clinton Foundation.
He claims that anyone who broke the immigration laws should be immediately deported. He further said that if anyone broke the law before becoming a citizen they should lose their citizenship and be deported.
Does that include his wife? The AP reported last week that in fact Melania Trump earned over $20,000 while she was here on a visitor visa. A violation of immigration law. We must also guess that when she was asked if she had violated any immigration laws when she applied for citizenship, she must have lied. That would mean she violated not only the immigration law, but lied on official documents. According to Trump’s definition, she must be deported.
Note: I don’t really care about this, but it is important to remember that Trump has made this such a big issue in the election. I wish Melania well, and hope her husband doesn’t get elected so she isn’t facing loss of her citizenship and deportation. Talk about a new imaginable way to get a divorce.
But disaster is the word most used by Trump. Even though we have had 73 months of new job creation our economy is a disaster. Even though family income in finally rising our economy is a disaster.
Our military is a disaster. We have the strongest, best equipped, best trained, and best people serving in our military, but he calls it a disaster. One reason that our military is a disaster, according to Mr. Trump, is that we allow women to serve.
Our immigration policies are a disaster. I agree with that point, but not in the same vain as Trump. We do not have “open borders”. This administration, which Trump calls a disaster, has deported more undocumented immigrants than any administration before it.
We have slowed the number of people crossing the border. We have tried to reform our Immigration laws to include tighter border security, E-verify, speeding up the immigration visa process. and even a path for undocumented immigrants to gain legal status. The Republicans, who helped write that law, killed it just as fast.
However, the real disaster in this election has been Donald Trump himself. He has played to the fears and hate of people in order to get votes. He blames immigrants for our economic problems. He says that if there weren’t any illegals” as he puts it there would be plenty of jobs for every citizen.
He says that we don’t make anything anymore because of “trade policies”. He claims that he will bring jobs back to America. Yet, all the while, he is making every single product that bears his family’s name overseas. Nothing is manufactured in the US. He claims he cannot make his suits in America. What he is really saying is that he can’t make his suits in the US at $1.25 per hour.
He claims that the media is a disaster and corrupt. That is because they have the unmitigated gall to actually report what he says. How dare they actually record and show what he is saying. That obviously makes him look bad.
He has turned this election into an “us v. them” campaign. The “us” are white men. the “them” is everyone else. He wants to ban Muslims from immigrating here. He wants women back in the kitchen barefoot and pregnant. He wants African-Americans back in the fields where the belong. He wants Mexicans all deported or put in jail.
Those have been the memes that he has based his campaign on. He lies at every turn and doesn’t care if everyone knows he is lying. He can’t even be trusted with his own twitter account because he keeps shooting himself in the foot.
He seems to have a real bromance with Vladimir Putin of Russia. He has placed the authoritarian on a pedestal and tells us that is the kind of leader we need here in America. Even though our Intelligence Community and every cyber expert who has investigated the hacks of the DNC and Podesta say that Russia was behind them, he refuses to acknowledge that is even a possibility.
Well, here is something that no one has talked about. Do you really think that if Donald Trump is elected President, he will actually serve as President? By that I mean do you believe he will be the “policy maker” of his administration?
I am convinced that if Trump actually wins, he will be nothing but a figurehead. That would actually be kind of better than him actually making policy. I said “kind of better” because that would also give Pence far more power than his office is supposed to have and Paul Ryan would get a free ticket to pass his bogus economic policies and ruin the economy again.
The entire campaign of Donald Trump has been a disaster. It has harmed our democracy more than any other campaign in our history. This disaster isn’t going to end with the election tomorrow either. No matter who wins, we will be faced with the outright hate that Trump has unleashed on our society.
If Clinton wins, and everything points to that decision, the far right-wing will lose its lunch again. After being beaten twice by an African-American the idea of losing to a “girl” may be too much for them to handle.
All we can do is vote and hope reason wins out. If we stick together and reject this hate and disaster by a huge margin, then maybe we can get back to normality. That means that the Democrats need to take back the Senate, and hopefully gain a lot of seats in the House.
There isn’t too much at stake here. Only our economy, our environment, our civil rights, our education system, our health care, our freedom of religion, our laws, our Constitution, our military, our taxes, our immigration policies, our country and our future as a people. The authoritarian vision of Donald Trump does nothing to protect any of those issues.
Tomorrow is election day. This election was turned into a disaster by Donald Trump. Tomorrow we have the chance to tell him and the Republican Party we don’t subscribe to that vision of America.
Thank a Vet – VOTE!
