Yesterday in Reno, NV Donald Trump was rushed off stage by the Secret Service. I was kind of shocked by that scene since that normally only happens if there is a real threat to the person being protected.
The video of the event didn’t show much. It showed Trump being rushed off of the stage and then a small struggle immediately in front of the stage. Later we saw a man being escorted out of the rally.
It was also reported that someone in the crowd, not any Secret Service Agent yelled “gun” when the chaos began. That is what caused the Secret Service to rush Trump off of the stage.
However, no gun was found in the area nor was a gun found when the police searched the man suspected of being involved. Apparently knowing there was no weapon, the Secret Service allowed Trump to continue with his speech a few moments later.
We saw the actual Secret Service in action yesterday. They reacted to the shout of “gun” and acted very professionally. Unfortunately, the Trump campaign didn’t act so professionally after the event.
Donald Trump Jr. even tweeted that it was “an assassination attempt”. That is egregious behavior, but nothing new for the Trump campaign especially Junior. There was no “assassination attempt” in Reno yesterday.
The man who was removed from the rally was later released. The police found no evidence that he was trying to harm the candidate. And, since they found no weapon, there was nothing they could hold him on.
He later gave an interview to the media. I am not going to quote him directly, but he basically said that he is a lifelong Republican who is against Trump. He claimed to agree with many things that Trump supporters believe in, but thinks Trump is dangerous for our country.
He said the only thing he had was one sign that read Stop Trump. I guess that means some Trump supporters consider that as being a “gun”.
The fact is, so far there has been so little attention paid to the incident that you knew it was nothing. If police had reason to hold the person, you can bet it would be headlines at every news organization this morning. But I have seen very little about it so far. And, no that is not the media being biased towards Trump. It is simply nothing to report.
The unfortunate part is that we have seen similar violence at Trump rallies before. If I were a “conspiracy theorist” I might explain it as someone in the Trump camp being the person shouting “gun” in an attempt to get more free advertisement for their candidate. But as sorry as I believe the Trump camp to be, I don’t think they would stoop that low.
Fortunately in a few days it will all be over, hopefully. In 72 hours election day will be in full swing. The people will decide who will lead our country for the next four years.
However, regardless of who wins, I am not convinced that all of the stupidity will end. If there was any time in our history since the Civil War that we have a very uncertain future, it is now. The only chance we have is to vote.
This election should remind everyone just how important your vote is. It should remind you of your civic duty to vote. There is no reason why we shouldn’t turn out in record numbers to vote this year.
Yesterday’s incident in Reno is a window on how badly this election has been run. It is a window on the deep divides we have in this country created by power-grubbing people who don’t care about the country or you but only in gaining a title and something they can put on their resume.
Trump has based his entire campaign on divisiveness, fear and hate. Is that what we are supposed to be as a nation? I hope not. In any case only the people can make that decision. A vote for Trump is for more divisiveness, fear and hate.
Thank a Vet – VOTE!
