The rise of Donald Trump and his Alt-Right supporters have put the Republican Party Candidates on edge. The question is are they scared of being “primaried” or losing this election? Are they lying about what they really believe? Or are they just plain stupid?
Here is their problem. For years, and I mean decades, the party has sown the seeds of divisiveness. They have not been interested in policies that will make our country better, they have only been interested in dividing the nation so they have a chance at winning elections.
That has led to gridlock in Washington. Policies that are designed to help the oligarchs and make the rest of us pay dearly. Their meddling in the financial laws, namely eliminating consumer protections and regulations designed to help keep our economy sound led to the biggest crash since 1929.
Now, they are faced with the worst Presidential Candidate they have ever put forward. Donald Trump. This has caused panic among many candidates down ballot. They are basically stuck between a rock and a hard place.
They have taken their party to that sacred place of being the 21st century version of the Know Nothings. That has been shown to be true this election. And, it is getting worse.
During the primaries Donald Trump picked off his opponents one by one. He criticized them by attacking such serious things as their looks. He called them all dummies. He claimed that only he alone could fix things.
He called Marco Rubio “little Marco”. He criticized the wife of Ted Cruz and then highlighted a National Enquirer story that Cruz’ father may have been involved with the JFK assassination. He did this without any proof and on the debate stage. He was able to get away with it by claiming “I don’t know if it is true but….”
Marco Rubio called him a con man and not trustworthy with the nuclear codes. But, today Rubio is endorsing Trump. Ted Cruz said he would never support Trump because he refused to be his lap dog. He said “when you attack my wife and my father, don’t expect me to support you.” Yet today, Cruz is not only endorsing Trump he is stumping for him.
Trump said that John McCain was “no hero because he was captured. I like those who weren’t captured”. Needless to say there was a huge outcry about that comment. Yet, John McCain is supporting the “party’s nomination”.
Recently Rep. Chaffetz of Utah said he could not support or vote for Donald Trump after the infamous tape about sexually assaulting women. He said “I cannot look my daughter in the eye and say I support Trump after that tape.” Last week, Chaffetz said he would vote for Trump. I guess his daughter doesn’t mean as much as he wants us to think she does.
Yesterday Chaffetz said that “just because I voted for Trump doesn’t mean I support or endorse him.” Say what??? If you vote for a candidate, any moron knows that is supporting that candidate.
After the Access Hollywood tape several Republican Senate candidates said they would not endorse or support Trump. A few weeks later, they all changed their minds and said they would endorse Trump.
In a normal election that would be political suicide. But, with Trump heading up the ticket, it has become normal. There is only one reason for these “flips”. The Republicans have built a base of supporters hell-bent on divisiveness. They nominated their perfect candidate.
They nominated someone who hates everyone but himself. They nominated someone who plays to their hatred and their fears. As a result, these down ballot candidates need that base to get elected. So, when the base gets upset because you won’t support their hero, you change your mind and support him, too.
Forget all about principle. Forget all about morality. Forget all about integrity. The only thing that matters is getting elected. It doesn’t even matter if you do anything once you get elected. You will get your paycheck if you pass any meaningful legislation or not.
It is all about power. It is all about telling other people how they should live. Telling other people who they can love. Telling other people if they are acceptable to you or not.
When a Supreme Court Justice dies one year away from an election you say you won’t do anything to fill it until the people have voted for the new President. Then when it looks like your party will lose that election, you say you won’t support anyone nominated by a Democrat. You believe that the Constitution says only Republicans can fill a vacancy on the Supreme Court. In other words you lied.
This election is far more important than just who will be our next President. It is about whether or not we will have a functioning government. The Republicans have obstructed everything in the last seven years. Even still, the economy keeps growing. We just had our 73 straight month of job growth. We are seeing family money increasing more than in the last 30 years. We are seeing pay going up faster than in the last 9 years.
That tells me the other side has a far better idea of how to make our economy work. Yes, we still have work to do. But, we are far better off than we were eight years ago. We would be in better shape if the Republicans had done something other than obstruct everything during that time.
When you tell me that you voted for someone but that doesn’t mean you support him you are lying. When you say you don’t like your candidate but will vote for him just because he leads your party you have no integrity. When you say if the other side wins you will obstruct everything that tells me you don’t deserve to win your election.
We are supposed to be living in a democracy. That means we are supposed to work with each other based on the results of elections. It means we will have differing points of view, but not brazen divisiveness.
The Republican Party has given us divisiveness and chaos. They do not deserve a chance to run our country until they rid themselves of these nut jobs trying to destroy our country. Their economic policies have made our lives more miserable than at anytime in history except the Great Depression. Oh yeah, they were in charge when that happened too.
America is the greatest nation on earth. Americans are the most caring and loving people on earth. Americans are the most productive people on earth. So, why do the Republicans keep insisting on changing what and who we are?
Election day is just four days away. Stand up and be counted. Vote down the Republican chaos and divisiveness so we can continue to move forward. If you vote Republican, be prepared to be out of work again. That is the only results we can count on from their economic policies.
I don’t know about you, but whether they are scared, lying or just plain stupid, I am sick of having to deal with the immoral, dishonest and power grubbing Republicans trying ruin everything we the people have worked so hard to achieve.
