I am sure that headline probably makes some people uncomfortable. But, it is time to ask that question. If that question is wrong, then should we ask if Conservative Christians are mentally ill?
As you all know, I am not a “religious” person. My beliefs are far different from just about everyone. You also know from my writings that I was raised in Catholic Schools. So, I know and understand Christianity very well.
The biggest reason I am bringing this up is because of all of the “stuff” that has happened over the past few weeks and throughout this campaign for that matter.
There was that infamous tape about Trump bragging about sexually assaulting women. There are the 10 women who have come out and said that Trump sexually assaulted them over the years.
There was the arrest of three men in Kansas the other day. These men are from a group called “Crusaders”. The leader of this group is a self avowed “big” fan of Trump. They were arrested for plotting to blow up an apartment complex that houses Somalian Muslims on November 9, the day after the election.
Mosques in several states have been spray painted with TRUMP. Somehow the name Trump has become the new swastika. Muslim women have been assaulted on the streets in New York City for simply wearing a hijab.
A Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress in New Jersey had swastikas painted on his house not once but twice. This man is a Christian Indian-American. He is not Muslim but he has brown skin and wears a beard, so Trump supporters figure he must be a Muslim.
Then we have the GOP office in Orange County in North Carolina that was fire bombed. On the building next door there was spray painting saying “Nazi GOP get out or else.
These are some of the hate crimes that have taken place during this election. I have come to the conclusion that they are all the result of one common thread, besides Trump. That thread is Conservative Christianity.
You may think I am stretching things here, but I don’t agree with that analysis of stretching. There is proof that everything taking place is directly linked to that cult group. And, that is the “reasons” being given to keep supporting Trump even after that tape.
Michelle Bachman claims that Trump has “been risen by God” to lead our country. She is not alone in her view either. Tony Perkins, head of the influential Family Research Council, affirmed that he would be voting for Trump regardless of the allegations of sexual assault. “As I have made clear, my support for Donald Trump in the general election was never based upon shared values; rather, it was built upon shared concerns.
Funny, but if you are a “true believer” I would think that shared values would be a much bigger reason to support a candidate than shared concerns.
Then there is a Kansas Republican Party Official who supports Trump who told CNN, “God can use anybody. He used the harlots. It’s all about what God can do.”
On Saturday Rep. Glen Thompson who is running for re-election in PA said that the words on that tape were “rude and unacceptable.” Yet he is still going to support and vote for Trump.
In case you are wondering why, he said it was the explanation his wife gave him. “Her explanation to me was that God takes the imperfect, and makes perfect for his purpose.”
WTF does that mean? Is he really trying to say that God is making Trump “perfect”? If that is his definition for “perfect” please remind me to delete the word from my dictionary.
Is he trying to say that God is using a self-confessed sexual abuser of women for “his purpose?” That is a ridiculous statement all by itself. As another Trump supporter said, which has been echoed over and over “we’re not electing a moral leader. But God uses people that are immoral and can also do good things.”
All of this begs the question. What does “Conservative Christian” really mean? Do these people have any morals or are they just interested in imposing their narrow viewpoint on the rest of society?
If we allow this “cult” to define Christianity for the rest of us, then we must answer the question above that there really is no God. If you are a Christian or any other religious follower that believes in the existence of God, then you must criticize this stance from so-called Conservative Christians.
If your God is “using the imperfect Trump for his purposes” then the only thing I can say is that you want the end of our democracy to come soon. There is no other explanation for that belief.
Maybe they think that Adolf Hitler was also an “imperfect person who was used by God for his purposes.” Sorry folks, but if you believe in that God, you are far more Satanic than Christian.
May your God help you.
