On Tuesday the final primaries will be held. There are six primaries scheduled including California and New Jersey. It is possible that Hillary Clinton can sew up the nomination with a New Jersey victory even before California’s votes are counted. Yet, everyone is going to be watching California to see if Bernie Sanders can pull of a win there. If he does, that could cause even more chaos at the Democrat’s Convention.
But, yesterday was interesting all by itself. It began with Donald Trump running his mouth about the judge that is hearing the case against Trump U. It appears that since this judge is of Mexican descent, Donald doesn’t believe he should be hearing the case. According to him, no Mexican should be allowed to sit in judgement of his scam infested Trump U.
Trump seems to believe that since he “intends to build a wall with Mexico, any Mexican judge has a conflict of interest in hearing his case”. There is nothing that has come out from the case that even hints that the judge is showing any bias. But, we are talking about Donald Trump, and if he doesn’t like you, you are unqualified to fill your position.
Next came Paul Ryan’s “endorsement” of Donald Trump. Actually, Paul Ryan never said he endorsed the candidate. He merely said he would vote for him. In political parlance, that is not an “endorsement”.
And, why did Paul Ryan give his tacit approval of Donald Trump? Well, according to Mr. Ryan, he is voting for Mr. Trump because he believes that Trump will help him get some of his agenda passed into laws. More the pity for the rest of us. So, if you still believe that Trump will keep Social Security as it is, think again. That is number one on the hit list of Paul Ryan.
Hillary Clinton gave a speech yesterday. I know I haven’t written very much about Clinton or Sanders. That is because so far, there really isn’t a whole lot to say about either of them. However, yesterday Clinton did something I did not think she was ever going to do. She blasted Trump in a very professional and articulate way.
The best part of her speech, called a foreign policy speech, was to use Donald Trump’s own words against him. The media doesn’t seem to be interested in keeping his feet to the fire for his words, and Clinton used his own words to basically show just how dangerous he would be for the country and the world.
Of course the Donald used twitter during the speech to try to divert the message to what he wants, which is no message. His most “offensive” tweet was that she “gave a horrible performance.” Trump may think that running for president is just a performance, but most of Americans think it is more serious than that.
In any case, this was Hillary Clinton’s best speech of the campaign season. She needs to come up with more speeches in this vein in order to derail Trump and show just what a bad decision he really is.
CNN did something that I could not believe. They actually used their “breaking news” scroll at the bottom of the screen, known as a cryon, to “fact check” Trump in real-time. This happened when Trump claimed he never said that Japan should be allowed nuclear weapons. At the bottom it read “Trump claims he never said Japan should have nuclear weapons. (He did).”
Wow! Finally a network that actually shows the difference between bluster and truth. I hope that other networks take up this mantra and show that Trump is an addictive liar. I know it is difficult to hold Trump’s feet to the fire on any issue. He blunders his way to several issues throughout the day and no one wants to go back and challenge him on something he said earlier. They just let Trump use them to shout out his stupidity and make it seem “normal.”
Trump held a rally in San Jose last night. During the event, Trump railed that Clinton was a lousy reader of the teleprompter, all the while holding his speech in his hand and reading from the text. Making mistakes and backtracking over and over.
Also, a reporter for Politico was thrown out of the event. This reporter did not have the necessary “press credentials” and was typing on his laptop outside of the “press coral”. When a Trump campaign worker noticed him, he asked for his credentials and then had a security officer remove him from the floor. The reporter had purchased a general admission ticket to the event, so he had a right to be there.
So sorry. Only Trump and his people are allowed to decide which agencies get to “cover” his events. They claim that they are “private functions” since Trump is paying for them. But, Trump is not paying for the Secret Service Protection he is getting, nor is he paying for the police that are there to protect him.
Finally, outside of the convention center hundreds of people gathered to protest against Trump. Everything was going well until the event ended. That is when trouble started. I was not there, and I don’t know everything that went on. But, I will say that I abhor violence at political rallies.
I wrote about the violence inside Trump rallies against protesters, and I am stating that the violence outside the rally yesterday was just as disturbing to me as the others. I don’t want to hear about how Trump causes hate either. There is no excuse for violence at political rallies of any kind.
The most disturbing part was watching crowds surround Trump supporters and attacking them either with eggs, water balloons, or outright fists. That is uncalled for and the perpetrators should be arrested and charged with assault.
I also don’t want to hear the conservatives blame the Democrats either. Mainly because when a Trump supporter attacked someone inside a rally, he was a “lone wolf” or “you can’t hold the candidate responsible.” But, when it is your side being attacked you blame those nasty “lefties” or Democrats for being responsible.
Violence is violence. It doesn’t matter who started it. It only matters that it must end. I remember very vividly the violence of the 1960s. I remember vividly the violence at the Democratic Convention in 1968 in Chicago. I do not want to see a repeat of that awful scene.
Everyone has a right to protest. Everyone has a right to express their beliefs. But, no one has a right to attack the other side, especially at political events. Neither side last night was blameless. However, that does not excuse the violence and everyone should condemn it vigorously.
The best way to keep a bigot, racist, despicable louse from gaining a seat in the White House is to vote against him in November. If we really want to “take back” our country from the oligarchs and 1 percenters than we must also vote out the Republican controlled congress.
Let’s see what today will bring.
