Friday The House of Representatives passed the budget deal. When he tried to defend the budget, Mr. Ryan let slip his true objectives which we will discuss later in this article. Now it moves to the Senate where it faces a tough challenge. As usual, most of the Republican arguments against this deal is over not enough “spending cuts”. But, to my dismay, there are some who are challenging this because of the Military Retirement cuts I brought up last week. I say to my dismay, because this is the first time I can recall any Republicans have stood up for veterans for quite some time.
Remember, these are the same Republicans who want to cut food stamps. That will affect several hundred thousand veterans. Or as the Republicans like to say “lazy government money-grubbing skags”! The Republican Party has done absolutely nothing in the last 15 years to help veterans. Oh, they ran down to the WWII memorial to shout about the government shutdown denying the veterans the right to visit it. Even though they were the reason the government shut down.
But, now in order to stop this budget deal, several Republicans are arguing that it will hurt the veterans! As I said once before, hypocrisy has no bounds for these headline hunters! In the past they have argued that the Veterans Administration’s budget should be slashed! It is obvious shortsightedness is something they are very good at!
There is a lot of talk around Washington that this deal will forestall future shutdowns, at least for the next two years. But, that is not necessarily true! The Republicans are already aiming at the debt ceiling for their big fight. Even Paul Ryan has stated this target. While defending his compromise budget deal, he pointed to the debt ceiling as the key target.
He said: “We as a caucus — along with our Senate counterparts — are going to meet and discuss what it is we’re going to want out of the debt limit,” the Wisconsin Republican told “Fox News Sunday.” “We don’t want nothing out of this debt limit. We’re going to decide what it is we’re going to accomplish out of this debt-limit fight.”
Did you notice the take-back there? At first he said they were “going to discuss what it is we’re going to want out of the debt limit” Then said “We don’t want nothing out of this debt limit.” Besides the poor grammar, there is a definite back-track from his previous statement. In other words, they plan to make the debt ceiling a “fight” to get what they want. They are willing to put the “full faith and credit of the United Sates” on the line to extract another hostage from the country!
There is absolutely nothing they will do in order to gain “points” for their base! They are willing to ruin the economy of the country, put millions of people out of work, and possibly take down the entire world’s economy so they get what they want. How about considering the country wants a reasonable, sane government working out differences to move the country forward?
The debt ceiling is a made-up piece of legislation created by the Republican Party! They wanted to have budget fights for eternity, so they created this mythical ceiling in order to wage their wars! Before the Gingrich congress, there was no such thing as a debt ceiling. Now it is the rallying cry for all stupid conservatives who think they can blackmail the government into giving them what they want without having to earn it at the ballot box!
Raising the debt ceiling does NOT raise the debt! It merely allows the government to pay for debt that has already been run up by Congress! That is right, it allows the government to pay debt already run up by Congress! It was Congress who ran up our $15 Trillion debt! More specifically, it was Republican Congresses who ran up about 90% of that debt! Now, with the debt falling, they still want the average American to pay for their spending sprees! Of course, by “Average Americans” we are not talking about the very wealthy. We are talking about the disappearing middle-class and poor. Let’s keep those tax breaks coming for the wealthy!!!
I am not thrilled with this compromised budget deal. It hurts military retirees and government employees. As I said once before, we are used to being the ones paying the most. But that doesn’t mean we like it! However, I can support it as long as Mr. Ryan and his corporate welfare cronies will work with the Democrats to actually do something that will FIX the problem!
As we discussed before, this country very badly needs a total revision of the tax code! This country very badly needs immigration reform, which according to economists will add significantly to the economy! This country very badly needs J O B S! More importantly, we need middle-class paying jobs that will last for decades. That alone will raise tax revenues and lower the debt!
Mr. Ryan, Ayn Rand was wrong!! Stop idolizing a materialistic nut-job whose only goal in life was to satisfy her own selfish desires, even at the expense of everyone around her! I also read her books. I found them to be totally against the common welfare that you are supposed to be sworn to defend! In addition, she was totally against democracy as I pointed out last week! Isn’t that Un-American?
But, no, you are more interested in blackmail than you are in actually governing! Your interview on FOX proves you are simply waiting for the next crisis to bring up you draconian self-absorb notions and force them on the American People. After studying all of the budgets you have proposed, along with all of the rhetoric you have spewed, I am of the opinion that you are NOT the finance genius you think you are. You are simply another Ayn Rand apostle who is only interested in YOUR welfare, and not the country’s. As a result, you should resign your seat immediately, or start living up to the Oath of Office you took! Either action might benefit the country!
